  8. This patch corrects a problem with Mac OS 8.5 and 8.5.1 first reported by 
  9. Steve Jasik. Steve writes: "The manifestation of the bug is random 
  10. tromping of memory and sometimes it corrupts the heap (this happens when 
  11. an Application is launched). The problem is that some programmer did a 
  12. Load Contents when he meant to do a Load Address."

  14. Steve recommends hacking your System file with ResEdit, but I have made a 
  15. patch that should help people get rid of this bug much easier.

  17. What it does:
  18. The patch replaces value $83 at offset $1968 of the System's nlib 
  19. resource ID=11 with the value $3B. This is what Steve recommends.
  20.  
  21. Use at your own risk, and never patch an original or active file! I have 
  22. tested this with the US and the German versions of Mac OS 8.5 and 8.5.1.
